Stonelodge Bowls Club Update

Our bowls club, the Stonelodge Bowls Club, boasting what is considered by many to be the best bowls green in Suffolk, began their new season on 14th April. What better way to spend an enjoyable afternoon or evening this summer than a game of bowls in pleasant surroundings followed by a drink with friends in our bar afterwards. Achilles F.C. Update

Achilles F.C. Update

Our very successful football team, Achilles F.C., are reaching the climax of another exciting season. Unfortunately knocked out of the Bob Coleman Cup at the semi-final stage, they have been keen contenders for the league title until very recently and may well still finish as runners-up. They beat Henley Athletic on penalties in the semi-final of the Suffolk Senior Cup a few weeks ago and face Cornard United F.C. in an eagerly awaited final at Portman Road on Friday, May 10th, k.o. 7.30 p.m.

The Achilles Reserve team have also had a great season, doing well in the league and beaten finalists in the Travel Plus Reserve League Cup a few weeks ago at Woodbridge Town’s ground.

Refurbishment

Refurbishment

At Pauls Sports & Social Club we are investing in the club’s facilities to create a better environment for members and guests. Our Function Room has been transformed recently, freshly decorated with attractive light grey walls, new carpet tiles, smart new blinds and better chairs which will be replaced with even better ones soon.

Once we have completed our upgrade of the Function Room shortly, we will begin to refurbish the Members’ Bar. If you haven’t visited the club recently, please pop along and see what we have to offer.

Achilles F.C. Senior League Champions 17/18!

The Football Team based at our club, Achilles F.C., have had another fantastic season, finishing as Senior League Champions after their 4-2 win against old rivals Cranes on Saturday 28th April, which extended their lead to 15 points.

A minutes silence took place before the match as a touching tribute to Cyril Garnham, Achilles’ senior vice president, who sadly passed away a few days ago just short of his 91st birthday.

This season, Achilles have already won the League Title and were only knocked out of the Suffolk Senior Cup at the semi-final stage by a very strong Woodbridge team.

They have been the most successful team in the Suffolk and Ipswich League for several seasons, winning the Suffolk Senior Cup last season, beating Cranes F.C. at Portman Road in the final, whilst finishing runners-up in the Senior Division.

We couldn’t be more proud of our team – a huge well done to the champions!

Egg-cellent fun at the Easter party!

The Children’s Easter Party at the club was a great success. All the tickets were sold and the Function Room was full of happy families enjoying the disco music provided by D.J. Hamster, with disco dancing competitions and prizes for the best dancers, both young and not so young.

There was plenty of food and drink for the children, provided by our organiser and caterer Tina, as well as many raffle prizes and Easter eggs. Also, the children all loved to see, and make a fuss of, the two 5-day-old lambs brought to the club by the very kind “Lamb Lady” – a lovely extra treat!

Many thanks to those who organised this event, and who helped on the day, and to all the families that attended, to make it such a wonderful family Easter party.
